Water in Schools

I remember we traveled to the countryside the morning after we landed in Uganda. I saw and experienced overwhelming poverty like none I have seen. Water scarcity was huge. We drove on red dirt unpaved roads for hours. In our travels, we often saw children as young as five years old, alone carrying yellow jerrycans to retrieve water for their families back in the village. Men, women, and children walked long distances carrying jerrycans (5-gallon water containers).

Water Is Life

My family got the opportunity to visit Uganda, and while in Masaka, I saw a four-year-old, lethargic, bare-footed girl covered in red dirt from head to foot. She was staring at the water bottle one of our team members held. He handed her the remaining water in the bottle. She quickly began drinking it and didn’t stop until the entire plastic bottle began collapsing in as she emptied it. A few moments later, she to sway her little arms back and forth. Her smile blossomed and eventually led to dancing the rest of the time we worshipped.
